Jung-Tsung Shen, PhD

Associate Professor in Electrical and Systems Engineering (home), Computer Science and Engineering, and Physics

I attained my Doctor of Philosophy degree in Theoretical Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), followed by a post-doctoral research at the Ginzton Laboratories within the Stanford University. My academic background is deeply rooted in the multifaceted realms of Particle Physics, Cosmology, Condensed Matter Physics, and Quantum Physics, reflecting a profound commitment to the pursuit of scientific excellence.During my formative years as a graduate scholar, I was honored with the distinguished Bell Labs Fellowship, affording me the invaluable opportunity to immerse myself in the vibrant academic environments of the Theoretical Physics, Semiconductor Physics, and Optical Physics departments. Each summer, I eagerly engaged in research endeavors, reveling in the profound joy of discovery and intellectual exploration. Our recent scientific contributions to the field of Quantum Photonic Logic Gates and Quantum Multi-Photon Excitation Microscopy have been recognized with resounding acclaim. Notably, our pioneering work merited the prestigious 2018 NSF Quantum Leap Award, a testament to the revolutionary nature of our research. Subsequently, in 2020, the Chan Zuckerberg Deep Imaging Award bestowed further recognition upon our endeavors, reaffirming our dedication to pushing the boundaries of scientific understanding.

Debsuvra Mukhopadhyay, PhD

I completed my Ph.D. in Physics from Texas A&M University. My current research interests include waveguide QED and nanophotonics, with a focus on the multiphoton excitation regime. I am also intrigued by the collective radiative behavior of multiple quantum emitters such as atomic arrays or ensembles integrated with waveguide architectures.

In my leisure time, I like to travel and watch travel vlogs, read books and articles, play chess, and solve chess puzzles.

Johanna Malaer

Johanna Malaer

Johanna Malaer grew up in San Francisco, California. She received her Masters in Aerospace Engineering and Bachelors in Electrical Engineering in 2018 from George Washington University in St. Louis. Prior to that, she received a Bachelors in Physics from the College of Wooster. She continued her Physics education at Wash U, petitioning to take physics electives under the engineering department. In her last year at Wash U, she worked closely with Dr Shen on a project focused on an expansion of Bell’s Theorem. Following her time at Wash U, she began working at the Aerospace Corporation, where much of her work focused on optimizing designs for optical cross-linking in mesh satellites network. She now works on range systems out of Vandenberg SFB, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Systems Engineering.
